Artist Statement

I came to photography as a medium after working for over twenty-five years as an art director in the advertising and graphic design industries. I could always visualize the images I wanted, and now rather than telling other people what I want, I capture the image myself.

I am drawn to the color and pattern and composition that surround us every day. By isolating or defining an area within the rectangle of the picture, I can draw attention to a scene, lift an object or person out of its surroundings, or create an abstract composition. I like to think I don’t create images as much as I discover them. My images are typically not about what’s in them, but about what they become.
